Praise Chapel Christian Fellowship

social network - where our vision, values, ideas and friendships all connect

Please explain the "Gap Theory" the best you could...I have met a few in our fellowship that believe in it...wouldn't debate...but believe it. What is this 'theory' exactly?
Was there or was there not some sort of pre-Adamic race??? human or not.
Thoughts Please???

The Gap theory -Its just that - a theory. Gen. 1:1-2. Gods creation is understood as recent, thousands and not millions of years ago. In 6 consecutive 24 hour periods called "days" and further distinguished as such by this phrase, " the evening and the morning." Scripture does not support a creation date earlier that about 10,000 years.
The words "Without form and void" mean: not finish in its shape and as yet uninhabited by creatures (See Is. 45:18-19; Jer. 4:23). God would in 6 days decorate his creation.
Again: Some suggest that vv.1 and 2 refer to two separate creative acts separated by a span of time. They argue that the initial creation fell into desolate condition (perhaps because of the fall of Satan), and that the Hebrew word here translated "was" should be rendered "became." This view is very doubtful, however, because the proposed translation "became" is unlikely in this context, and because the description "without form and void" refers more naturally to a creation yet to be formed and filled, rather than to one that had falle into disrepair. God has the ability to do what he wants and he confusses the "wise" of this age in so many ways. There are those that capitalized in speculation so we must fight for the truth.

The Gap Theory has come about worldly pressure to accommodate the evolution theory. We Christians believe in micro evolution but not macro evolution. Darwin’s black box, by Michael Behe is a great work against evolution. It has been proven by archeological findings that dinosaurs roam the earth while humans were around. I will get you an awesome website about this later.

I will have to admit that this is a subject I could teach or explain but have never been able to grasp simply because I have not found a scripture that supports this in whole. I understand one could string together some verses and build a case for it but I just can't stand there and say its TRUTH with any certainty.
When I first heard of this some years ago I questioned it and the response was not good. I can not say who that person was since he is VERY well known in our fellowship. I was just floored with his conviction that the "Gap Theory" was truth and that settled it....I was just wondering how somebody could be so sure of something that in all honesty could be debated.

You have an awesome way of looking at the whole theology challenge. Don't ever change that attitude. I know I do not know it all and I want to learn more and more and more and if you can help me see something in light of scripture that i some how got twisted then You have edified me and i will love you for it. This should be the attitude of all of us in the body of Christ, and i get a sense that you have that, so you will keep growing beloved. Continue to delight in His word and He will give you the desires of your heart. To know Him... Hallelujah

I think that problems arise every time we try and make the bible be a science book. It is not, although it contains scientific proof, its objective is to teach us about God, and not science.

I do not hold to a young earth, I think that the earth is billions of years old. There is very good scientific data to support that. Does this change any theological position, or place me a fatal biblical understanding? No. I think this is issue is non-essential and fun to discuss and think about.

I agree with Rob that this issue if anything is fun to discuss, but we can all agree that God can create an earth that may appear as millions of years and only be thousads. Why would He do that, well to confuse the wise of this world. The ones talking worldly wisdom. We'll find out soon enough.

Who cares how old? We are here now and who are we sharing the simple Gospel with today? Tomorrow? Jesus said, Preach the Gospel, not the science of this earth which is falling apart. Preach the Gospel.

BLOK - PUT THE GUN AWAY OR POINTED SOMEWHERE ELSE. On the real Block u are correct, but to the Greek I am Greek and to the Jews am a Jew. I thank God and all praise to him, because He can raise us up to talk to the scholard and the homeless. We need to be well rounded. Jesus started his conversation with the Samaritan women by asking for a glass of water.

Well depends what circles you ride with. Maybe no one ever asks you about these questions, but there are many non-Christian people that I encounter that I have this type of dialog with. They need Jesus too. To ever man an answer - that's in the bible. peace.

Yup, different circles for sure.
Thank God sometimes they overlap. Imagine.. only being able to witness to one "circle" yukky!
By circle, we mean people groups, just in case this was too deep for some. or, too shallow for others.
Push the Kingdom forward....Preach the Gospel.

David,

I do think about that very question. How old was Adam when he was created? Or how old did he look? From the reading in Genesis it seems safe to assume that he was at least the age of a full grown man. If that is the case with Adam, is it possible that the earth also had age designed into it? Great question, and fun to think about.

But when dealing with an atheist you will get no where denying an old earth, let them have their science, there are other ways to approach them. In once sense Bobby does have a point preach the gospel ;-)
