"Jesus is the reason for the season."
Why not celebrate
Christmas as the birthday of Jesus? Why take Jesus out of Christmas? What would people think if we called Martin Luther King day, MLKday? or George Washington's birthday, GWday? or Veteran's day, Vday?
So why call Christmas, xmas?
It is about time that we all say, "Enough is enough." What is wrong with celebrating the birthday of Jesus Christ? The God/man who's birth, life, death and resurrection from the dead, changed the world forever.
* Jesus, who showed a God of love and compassion.
* Jesus, who brought a message of peace in a hostile world.
* Jesus, who fed the multitudes, healed the sick and raised the dead.
* Jesus, hated by kings and religious leaders.
"He who hates Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. 25…They hated Me without a cause." (John 15:23-25)
The very name of Jesus offends people today. "Jesus" is a curse word, why? Here are three simple reasons.
1. His Deity: The Bible declares that Jesus is God. He claimed to be God in the flesh. Jesus is fully God and fully man.
"And she (Mary) will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21 NLT)
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
2. He is the only way to God and forgiveness of sins.
"There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
3. He will judge sin in time and eternity.
"I can't impress this on you too strongly. God is looking over your shoulder. Christ himself is the Judge, with the final say on everyone, living and dead. He is about to break into the open with his rule, so proclaim the Message with intensity; keep on your watch. Challenge, warn, and urge your people. Don't ever quit. Just keep it simple." (2 Timothy 4:1 MSG)
We should not be surprised that a battle is going on concerning Christmas. The real issue is, "Who Christ is."
"When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, 'Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?' So they said, 'Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.' He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'" (Matthew 16:13)
There it is! Who is Jesus? He is, "the Son of the living God." God gave his Son to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). Christmas is about giving. What is wrong with having a day to give gifts? Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20: 35).
Christ showed His love to the world throughout His lifetime. He is still showing His love and Christmas is one way His love is declared. Rather than taking Jesus out of Christmas, why not meet the Jesus of Christmas? He loves you. He wants to forgive all who come to Him.
"Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13 NLT)
